Nursery 2025 - 2026
Welcome to Nursery at Causeway Green Primary School
Starting Nursery is a very special time in your child’s learning journey, and we are delighted to welcome our youngest children and their families to Causeway Green Primary School.
In Nursery, we create a safe, happy and nurturing environment where children can play, explore and begin to discover the world around them. Our dedicated staff team supports every child to develop their confidence, independence and curiosity through exciting activities and opportunities to learn both indoors and outdoors.
We believe that the early years are about building strong foundations – not only in early language, reading, writing and maths, but also in developing friendships, resilience and a love of learning.
Working closely with parents and carers, we want every child to feel secure, valued and excited to come to Nursery each day. Together, we set the foundations for a smooth transition into school life and a lifelong love of learning.
We look forward to welcoming you and your child into our Causeway Green family.
Supporting reading at Nursery
Reading begins long before children open their first book. Every time you sing nursery rhymes, play word games, chat about your day, or tell stories, you're laying the foundations for your child’s reading journey—so well done!
These everyday activities help children:
-
Hear and recognise different sounds
-
Understand how stories work and follow a sequence
-
Join in with familiar phrases and rhymes
-
Build a rich and varied vocabulary
At our Nursery, we continue to nurture these early literacy skills through playful, engaging experiences. Children enjoy storytime, sing songs, explore books independently, and take part in conversations that spark imagination and language development. As they grow, they may begin to link sounds to letters and show interest in written words—an exciting step on the path to becoming confident readers.
We celebrate every milestone, no matter how small, and work closely with families to support reading at home, too. Together, we help children discover the joy of stories and the power of language

Supporting Maths at Nursery
At our nursery, we believe that early maths skills are built through play, exploration, and everyday experiences. From counting blocks to measuring ingredients in messy play, children are constantly discovering the world of numbers, shapes, and patterns around them.
We create a rich environment where mathematical thinking is encouraged through:
-
Hands-on activities like sorting, matching, and building
-
Songs and stories that introduce counting and number recognition
-
Real-life experiences, such as snack time, where children learn about sharing and quantities
-
Outdoor play that involves spatial awareness, problem-solving, and movement
Our practitioners gently guide children to notice and talk about maths in their daily routines, helping them build confidence and curiosity. We also work closely with families to share ideas for supporting maths at home—because learning doesn’t stop at the nursery door. Together, we lay the foundation for a lifelong love of learning and numeracy. Use this link for fun maths games and activities at home:
