Meet The Year 6 Team
Welcome to Year 6 at Causeway Green Primary School
Year 6 is for children aged 10–11 and is the final year of Key Stage 2. It’s a year full of learning, responsibility and preparation as pupils get ready for the exciting step into secondary school the following September.
A key part of Year 6 is the end of Key Stage 2 National Curriculum Assessments, more commonly known as SATs. While these assessments are important, we work hard to ensure that pupils are well prepared without feeling pressured. Learning is kept engaging and enjoyable, and teachers support children to approach the tests with confidence and resilience. To help you know more about SATS, we invite parents to our SATS meeting and ask you to read the SATS files below.
Alongside preparing for SATs, Year 6 is also a time for pupils to develop independence, take on extra responsibilities, and celebrate their achievements as they reach the end of their primary journey. It’s a year of hard work, but also of fun, friendship and memorable experiences that help them move forward with confidence into secondary school.
Year 6 Reading - read every day and note this in your reading diary - you could be a Roarsome Reader. Read 150 times, and you will be invited for afternoon tea with Mrs Flanagan.
In addition to your reading book, why not use the Oxford Owl FREE e-book Library? The free eBook library has been created to help children aged 3–11 develop their reading skills at home. All the eBooks are free to use, but you will need to register or sign in at the link to read your book. Year 7 admissions — entry September 2027
If your child is due to start Year 7 (secondary school) in September 2027, you can apply for a school place online from Monday 14 September 2026. The closing date for applications is Friday 15 January 2027. Please read the information below and take action before the closing date.
How to apply
- Attend open days - the list of open evening events is attached below in the files
- Apply online via Sandwell School Admissions: www.sandwell.gov.uk/schooladmissions.
- If you do not have an email address or need help using the online system, Sandwell’s public libraries can provide assistance during their normal opening hours.
- Advice and support are also available from the Parent Support Line on 0121 569 6765 and via the council’s “Contact us about school admissions” webpage.
Important information for families of children with additional support needs
- If your child has additional support needs (including those with, or being assessed for, an Education, Health and Care Plan), please make the school and the local authority aware as early as possible. Where transition planning is required, the authority’s duty to seek and take account of relevant information and advice should be completed no later than 12 months before the anticipated change of school and information provided no later than 6 months before transfer.
- The school will seek parental consent before sharing information with appropriate agencies in line with data protection requirements.
Information for families known to the school
- If your child is currently in Year 6 at Causeway Green or at a local primary/infant school, we will provide a printed letter with full application instructions before 14 September 2026 so you have the information in good time to apply.
- Please remember: you must submit an application by the closing date — transfer to secondary is not automatic.
Additional and paper forms
- Some applications require supplementary evidence (for example, medical or denominational grounds). These additional forms and guidance are available to download from the council website.
- Paper application forms are provided only in exceptional circumstances and can be downloaded from the Admissions and Appeals Virtual Office.
Keeping track and reminders
- The Admissions Team will forward details of submitted online applications to schools on a regular basis to help identify families who have not yet applied.
- We will send a reminder to families known to the school at least two weeks before the closing date; the school records the date and method of these reminders.
Checks and conduct
- Please provide your child’s correct full name, date of birth and permanent home address on the application. The school will check details against our records and may notify the Admissions Team if the address supplied appears to be incorrect so it can be verified.
- School staff must not give opinions about whether an application is likely to be successful and will not provide letters supporting an application.
