Year 5 2025 - 2026
Welcome to Year 5 at Causeway Green Primary School
Year 5 is for children aged 9–10 and is the third year of Key Stage 2. It’s a year when pupils are encouraged to take on greater responsibility, grow in independence and begin preparing for the transition to secondary school. Many children experience a noticeable leap in maturity at this stage, gaining confidence and pride as they are trusted with more ownership of their learning.
Although there are no national tests at the end of Year 5, teachers carefully assess progress throughout the year to ensure that pupils are working securely in English and maths. In writing, there is a stronger emphasis on grammar, punctuation and the technical skills that underpin effective communication. In maths, children expand their knowledge by exploring new concepts such as percentages, negative and positive numbers, and—where appropriate—an introduction to algebra.
This combination of challenge, responsibility and support helps Year 5 pupils to thrive, ready for the final steps of primary school and the exciting years ahead.
Year 5 Reading - read every day and note this in your reading diary - you could be a Roarsome Reader. Read 150 times and you will be invited for afternoon tea with Mrs Flanagan.
